The Retro Camping Club was launched on December 8th, 2015. Our aims were simple: to encourage people to rescue and restore older camping vehicles and bring them along to our meets and events. We decided to try and keep things fun and irreverent, embracing all that’s cool or kitsch from a time long passed.
We quickly amassed a large following, leapfrogging other established clubs to become the largest club in all of Europe that caters for owners of vintage caravans, classic campers and retro tents. From our engaging printed magazine to our unique fun events, we have something to offer that makes everyone feel welcome and are proud that our Club is a fun organisation to be a part of.
ANYONE is welcome to join the Retro Camping Club. We define our interest as being predominantly camping vehicles that were manufactured 40 years ago or more. This cut off is in line with the government’s definition of a “historic vehicle”, and it moves on each year. And the age criteria is the important thing - whether your caravan/camper is concourse or painted pink with polka dots, if you’re channeling the golden era of camping in the UK, you’re in!
Although we have to enforce this age cut-off off at display events, at social rallies, any vehicle is welcome regardless of age. So if you’re a member and wish to join in, you’ll be made more than welcome.
It goes without saying that we have some very serious classic caravan/camper enthusiasts in our midsts too, culling together perhaps the world’s largest archive of brochures, magazines and various bits of ephemera that all goes to help members correctly identify and restore their vehicle. Our archives stretch right back to the earliest days of caravanning, and we’re pleased to work alongside the Caravan And Motorhome Club Collection to further assist each other to preserve and celebrate our wonderful caravanning heritage.
Membership includes the aforementioned printed magazine, access to our rallies, public liability insurance that is valid at all public display events, access to our online membership forum, an annual printed wall calendar, membership sticker and some exclusive member discounts.
